As a class, look through the library of precedents in the Toolbox. For each project, answer the following questions:
How is sound being made?
How is the interaction with/ function of the object changed by the addition of the sound-making aspect?

As a class: on one side of the whiteboard, list objects that you interact with on a daily basis in your classroom. On the other side, list musical instruments or sound-making devices.
In a small group: connect one object to one instrument, and sketch what that combination could look like. Repeat this with three different pairings.
nb: You will need to have access to the object you choose to complete the design challenge

Final Planning
In your small group, look at each sketch/ idea that you created. Is there one idea that you think is most promising? Work together with your partner(s) to hone in on a concept for your design. Consider the experience of the person using the object while you design: should your design surprise, delight, annoy, or motivate the user?
Make a final sketched plan that shows:
What materials your project will use
How the design will attach to or interact with the classroom object
What sound you hope to make

Using the materials available and the chosen object, build your interactive musical intervention. This will be a low-fidelity prototype given the time allowed, but should show some functionality and a sense of the user experience.

As a class, you are going to share what you made. Present your project in 2-3 minutes, focusing on the main concept and showing your model. Students should give each other constructive feedback and ask questions about the projects they see.

Based on the feedback that you got and the questions that you heard, think about one improvement or change you can make to your project. Can you improve the sound, or make changes to the object interaction, to make the idea stronger?

Find at least one other group that you think your sound-making object would work well with, and try to create a short composition or improvised sound jam together.
If there's time, you can see what all of the instruments in the class sound like together!
