ITERATION
ACTIVITY MATERIALS
- Sturdy material for the 3D sculpture (thin cardboard, 180g paper).
- Cutting tools (scissors, craft knife, etc.)
- Ruler and pencil for measurements.
- Glue/tape (glue gun or craft glue)
- Rubber bands, zip tie, brads
- Popsicles and white string
Gather the materials you’ll need to make a quick, low-fidelity prototype of your invention. These can be anything around you—paper, cardboard, tape, string, recycled objects, etc.

Document & Reflect: Take photos of the simulated limitations and the prototype. Describe the limitations simulated, tasks explored, and design process.

Look at the feed back you got from your user, and think of yourself: What’s awkward? What’s confusing? What breaks or doesn’t work as intended? Would someone want to use this?

For each issue, come up with one possible improvement.
Example: 🔴 "It's too bulky" → ✅ "Use foldable or lighter materials"
🔴 "Hard to press the button" → ✅ "Move it to the front panel"
ACTIVITY STEPS
Draw a version of your improved prototype. Show the new changes

Build a second, upgraded version using what you have.
(you can even do more if you have time!)
90 min
You could improve your prototype by adding new mechanisms (like hinges, wheels, or levers), trying out different materials (such as fabric, cardboard, or recycled parts), experimenting with new techniques (folding, layering, attaching with magnets, etc.), or introducing new functions that make it more useful, fun, or user-friendly. Think creatively and don’t be afraid to try something unexpected!
